Wedding gifts

We are extremely fortunate to have you in our lives...and for those of you who are able to come to Sweden, we are thrilled to be sharing Swedish experiences and celebrating our wedding day with you! This is enough of a gift for us!

We know that some of you will still want to give a gift. So we put together this website to give some ideas of our favorite activities, experiences, and parts of our life together that we love...and to invite you to share in them! This list has a sample of our favorites - a vegetable CSA, a hot-tub at our favorite spa during the cold winter months, lobster's at our favorite shack during the hot summer...and a host of other exciting things, some that we've been dying to try since we've lived in Boston!

So if you feel inclined to get us something, then please follow this link ! We can guarantee you we'll send you a thank you note when we use it, eat it, do it or live it!

We can't wait to see you in Sweden!!!

If you have 2-4 days of traveling on the days surrounding the wedding:

The Swedish Westcoast and Archipelago
The Bohuslän coast stretches from Gothenburg, one of Sweden’s three largest cities, northwards to the border with Norway, and beside this coastline lies the Western Archipelago, a spectacular seascape of 8,000 islands, islets, skerries and rocky outcrops. But what can you do there? Part of the pleasure of visiting the archipelago is getting there, whether by ferry or your own boat. On the larger islands there are convenient guest harbours for mooring up while the coast also offers a range of hotels, restaurants and activities such as kayaking, canoeing, diving and other water sports. And perhaps best of all, the islands are all so easy to reach, from Gothenburg and many points all along the coastline.

Places to see on the west coast:
Marstrand- Take a ferry here, visit the castle or just watch the sailboats
Åstol- Eat som delicious smoked fish here
Fiskebäckskil- (Stay here: http://www.strandflickorna.se/)
Lysekil-
Smögen- Stroll the 'boardwalk', people watch, eat fresh fish, drink a beer and swim.
Grundsund-Eat here, Pelles Rökeri or here, Smultron och Tång
Kärringön (Eat here: http://www.petersonskrog.se/)
Skärhamn- (Visit akvarellmuseet)
Orust- (Stay here http://www.slussenspensionat.se/)

Göteborg/Gothenburg

Göteborg is the second-largest city in Sweden and the fifth-largest in the Nordic Countries.Situated on the south-west coast of Sweden, the city proper has a population of 508,714 with 510,491 in the urban area and total of 920,283 inhabitants in the metropolitan area. Göteborg is where both my (Annas) parents were born, where most of my extended family lives and no matter where in the country we lived (we moved a lot), Göteborg always felt like home.

Styrsö- take a ferry here for the day
Saltholmen- take the train here and go for a swim
Norra Älvstranden- Take the ferry across the river (this is where Anna went to high school, and commuted on the ferry every day), stroll the harbor, stop to eat.
Botaniska Trädgården+Slottskogen
Haga-Stroll the beautiful cobblestone streets of this central neighborhood
Vasa- Stop at one of the many cafes or restaurants in this beautiful central neighborhood
Avenyn- People watch and shop on the man avenue

Hotels in Göteborg

: : The City of Göteborg is the second largest city in Sweden, it is located 45 min away from the wedding location and is the closest airport (Landvetter). It's a beautiful city, the largest seaport in the Nordic countries. It's where both Annika (mom) and Nils (dad) grew up, where most of our relatives live and where I went to high school and part of college . It is a great city to visit, very walkable with wonderful unique neighborhoods in the center of the city.

If you are thinking about staying in Göteborg for a night or two these are a few hotels that are centrally located, at reasonable prices (please let us know if you are planning to reserve a room and we will work to get you a discounted rate)

Hotels in Göteborg:

City Hotel Gbg (Avenyn) $-$$
Located close to the main street, Avenyn, this hotel offers budget rooms with shared bathrooms or basic rooms with a private bath.

Hotel Vasa $$
Located in the city neighborhood of Vasastan, in the center of the city within walking distance to most everything. Vasastan is known for it's many restaurants and cafes.

Elite Park Avenue Hotel $$$
Located on the upper part of the main street, Avenyn, this is an elegant hotel with a great restaurant. Within walking distance to most everything in the city.

Getting to Lyckorna, Ljungskile (wedding location):

There are several options for renting a car in the city of Göteborg or at Landvetter airport.

There are good train and bus connections to Ljungskile. From Ljungskile station you would have to take a taxi or arrange for someone to transport you to your hotel.

Buss:

We are working on recommendations for things to do, places to see, where to eat etc in Göteborg. Please don't hesitate to email if you have questions.

How to travel to Sweden

Sweden's westcoast. Photos: anna & iz

: : halloj! we're busy working on our invite and hope to have it out very soon. in the meantime we thought we could use the blog to give you some travel information (a few of you have asked about making travel plans). So, for those of you thinking about making the trek across the Atlantic this summer and want to start looking into flight tickets, here's the info:

Flight tickets to Sweden can be expensive during the summer. We do recommend getting them as early as possible (Jan-March for best prices).

The closest airport to the wedding location is Göteborg (Gothenburg), Landvetter airport (GOT).

There will be activities scheduled on the days surrounding the wedding to allow for opportunities to explore the beautiful Swedish west coast archipelago, the city of Göteborg as well as enjoying summer activities at the summerhouse (swimming, sauna, croquet, kayaking and more). More information regarding these activities will follow. If you plan to participate in all of the activities, we recommend arriving to Göteborg on Thursday evening Aug 12th and staying until Sunday evening Aug 15th.

There will be a range of accommodation options available, more information about this in the invite.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about travel, accommodations or want additional information on places to visit in Sweden or the rest of Scandinavia. August is most definitely the best time of the year to visit Scandinavia.
